Graveside services for Dorothy Merrill Aldrich, 90, of Homedale, who died Saturday, September 9, 1995, at the Homedale Nursing Home, will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, September, 19, 1995, at the Fargo Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, at the Homedale Presbyterian Church. Reverend John Pickrell will officiate under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Mrs. Aldrich was born November 10, 1904, at Weathersfield, Vermont, a daughter of Willis and Susan Allen Aldrich. She moved with her family to the Fargo area in 1907 where she attended school. She graduated from Homedale High School in 1923 and in 1927 graduated from the College of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree. In October of 1928, she attended Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Connecticut where she received a Bachelor of Nursing degree when she graduated in 1931. Dorothy returned to the Fargo area and worked as a home nurse and school nurse during the depression. In 1935, she went to work at St. Luke's where she worked for 13 years, ten of those teaching student nurses. Dorothy also worked for the Elks Rehab Hospital doing "polio nursing." In 1950, she went to work for St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center where she taught practical nursing. In June of 1951, she moved to the Twin Falls/Magic Valley area and became director of nursing until leaving in 1959. At that time, she returned to the Wilder area and worked for both St. Luke's and St. Al's. She also taught nurses at the Samaritan Hospital in Nampa. Dorothy also worked at Caldwell Memorial Hospital teaching practical nursing. For several years she worked at the Homedale Nursing Home, retiring in 1973. After her retirement, Dorothy traveled for two years throughout Idaho and the Western United States. Dorothy was a charter member of the Owyhee County Historical Society, a member of the County Extension Program at Marsing, a member of the Idaho State and National Nursing associations, the Camera Club, Presbyterian Church, Fargo Ladies Club and attended numerous summer schools in nursing. She enjoyed gardening and homemaking. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Hazel. Dorothy wanted memorials to be given to the Homedale Presbyterian Church, Homedale Senior Citizens or to your favorite charity. Friends may call Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale."
